Today I’m happy to announce SlapSad’s brand-new series, Scratch ‘n’ Imagine! This time, we’re releasing the postcards one by one, and the first is called The Smell of Defeat. Perfect for that proud new loser in your life, or perhaps for a recently captured market share!
Unlike the scents of Scratch ‘n’ Sniff fame, Scratch ‘n’ Imagine smells can’t be detected by nail and nose alone. You can scratch all you want, but sniffing will only get you a whiff of cardstock. For the full experience, you’ll need to do some good old-fashioned olfactorizing.
The Scratch ‘n’ Imagine series is a work in progress, mainly because the creative team lost its director last week, and most of them are still drinking pretty much nonstop. I can’t tell if they’re celebrating or sad, and to be honest I’m kind of afraid to ask.
But I digress. The design we’re going with here appears to be some kind of artistic commentary on failure. A font called The Rainmaker commands the attention with irregular outline letters, sloppily colored without staying in the lines, of course. The copy’s perspective is slightly askew in what I assume is a twisted tribute to the font’s incognito designer, a certain Paulo R, who cannot be located. The verso matches the recto in scheme, and includes a one-liner revealing that sometimes even the victor is close enough to defeat to smell it.
